IT Hardware Sourcing & Consultancy
Buying the right IT equipment is harder than it should be. We handle the specifying, sourcing, configuring and delivery, so kit arrives ready to work, not as a box to unpack.
The problem with buying IT hardware yourself
Spec sheets are dense, model ranges change constantly, and the cheapest unit on a price-comparison site is rarely the one that’ll still be fit for purpose in three years. Get it wrong and you’re left with kit that underperforms, warranties that don’t cover what you assumed, or a stack of boxes someone still has to unwrap, configure and join to your network.
Most businesses don’t have a dedicated procurement person for IT, so the job lands on an office manager, an operations lead, or whoever is least busy that week. That’s where the friction starts.
- Specifying the right kit. Two laptops with the same headline price can be worlds apart on processor, memory, storage, screen quality and build. Without knowing what to weigh, it’s easy to overpay for performance you’ll never use, or underbuy and feel the pain within a year.
- Vendor and model confusion. Manufacturers run overlapping ranges, business lines, consumer lines, refreshed models that look identical to last year’s. Working out which SKU is the genuinely current, business-grade option is a research project in itself.
- Lead times and availability. Stock for specific business models comes and goes. A part you assumed was in stock can be weeks out, derailing a new starter’s first day or a planned rollout.
- Hidden total cost. The purchase price is only part of it. Warranty tier, expected lifespan, energy use, compatibility with what you already run, and the hours spent unboxing and configuring all add up, and rarely show on the invoice.
- It arrives as a box, not a working tool. Consumer-channel hardware turns up unconfigured. Someone still has to set it up, install software, join it to your domain or Microsoft 365 tenant, and make it secure before anyone can use it.
You can absolutely buy hardware yourself. The question is whether your time is better spent doing that, or running your business.
Independent, vendor-aligned procurement
We’re not tied to selling one manufacturer’s stock. Our job is to recommend what genuinely suits your business, then buy it at a sensible price.
That independence is backed by direct relationships with the manufacturers and platforms that matter. Chronos works as a partner of Lenovo, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Microsoft Cloud Partner, alongside Sophos and ConnectWise. These give us proper access to current business-grade ranges, accurate availability, appropriate warranty options and competitive trade pricing across laptops, desktops, workstations, servers and networking.
Because we’re vendor-aligned rather than vendor-locked, the recommendation comes first and the purchase follows it. We tell you what to buy and why, in plain English, and we’re happy to explain the trade-offs so the decision is yours.
Technology partners
Technology partnerships, not accreditations.
From “we need new kit” to “it’s working on the desk”
Our hardware service covers the whole journey, with the setup work done before anything reaches a user.
Specify
We start with how the equipment will be used, the roles, the software, the performance and longevity you need, and translate that into a clear, right-sized specification. No overbuying, no false economies.
Source
We procure through our manufacturer and distribution channels, check real availability and lead times before we commit, and secure competitive pricing so your budget goes further.
Configure
Hardware can arrive ready to use: imaged, software installed, joined to your domain or Microsoft 365 tenant, security baseline applied and labelled for asset tracking. You unbox a working machine, not a setup task.
Deliver
We arrange delivery to your site across Hook, Odiham, Basingstoke, Fleet, Farnham and the wider Hampshire area, and can coordinate rollout so replacements land with minimal disruption.
If you’d rather not buy hardware outright at all, we also offer it on a predictable monthly subscription, see our Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS) page for the lease-style alternative. And once equipment is in use, our IT Asset Management service tracks it through its whole lifecycle, from deployment to secure disposal.
The right equipment, without the procurement headache
Hardware sourcing and consultancy suits Hampshire SMEs who want the right equipment without the procurement headache.
It works as a standalone service, or as part of a fully managed IT relationship where we already know your environment and can recommend hardware that fits it perfectly.
- Growing teams taking on new starters who need machines configured and ready on day one.
- Businesses due a refresh replacing ageing laptops, desktops or servers and wanting a coherent, supportable estate rather than a mix of whatever was cheapest each time.
- Owners, finance and operations leads who want one accountable partner for specifying and buying IT, with clear advice and competitive pricing.
- Office managers who’d rather hand over the research, ordering and setup than chase distributors and unbox boxes.

Frequently asked questions
Are you tied to one hardware manufacturer?
No. We’re independent and vendor-aligned. We hold technology partnerships with Lenovo, HPE and Microsoft (among others), which give us access to current business-grade ranges and competitive pricing, but our recommendation is based on what suits your business, not on shifting one brand’s stock.
Can you supply just hardware, or do I have to take a support contract?
You can use our hardware sourcing on its own. Many clients do. It also fits naturally alongside our Managed IT Services if you’d like one partner handling both your equipment and your day-to-day IT support.
Does the hardware arrive ready to use?
It can. We offer configuration as standard, so machines can arrive imaged, with software installed, joined to your domain or Microsoft 365 tenant, security baseline applied and labelled for asset tracking. You unbox a working device rather than a setup job.
What if I would rather not buy the equipment outright?
We also offer hardware on a predictable monthly subscription through our Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS) service, which turns capital spend into a manageable operating cost and includes maintenance, refresh and end-of-life recycling.
Do you cover servers and networking, or just laptops and desktops?
We source the full range, laptops, desktops, workstations, servers and networking equipment, through our manufacturer and distribution channels, including enterprise-grade kit from HPE and Lenovo.
Which areas do you deliver to?
We deliver and roll out hardware across Hook, Odiham, Basingstoke, Fleet, Farnham and the wider Hampshire area, and support clients UK-wide remotely.
How do you keep prices competitive?
Our manufacturer partnerships and distribution relationships give us access to trade pricing across business ranges. Because we’re independent, we can recommend the best-value option for your needs rather than the one with the highest margin.
What happens to old equipment when it is replaced?
We can manage the full lifecycle, including secure, compliant disposal of retired equipment, through our IT Asset Management service.
